STOCKTON, Calif. (KCRA) —Stockton, Modesto and Tracy are the cheapest places to live in California according to a new report by University of the Pacific.
Selena Rodgriguez said her family moved from the Bay Area to the Central Valley, where they could get more bang for your buck.
“That's one of the reasons my husband and I moved out here because of the high prices (in the Bay Area),” Rodriguez said.
“California, in general, is expensive -- as we all know -- but the Central Valley is really reasonable,” UoP Associate Director of Business and Policy Research Thomas Pogue said.
The study's author said about 60 factors were considered when researchers looked at California cities, including rent, new housing, the cost of food, clothes, dentists and even haircuts.
“If you are living in Tracy now and contemplating moving to San Francisco, you would have to increase your income by 43 percent to have same standard of living as the Central Valley,” Pogue said.
